Best of Philadelphia STEALING My Content

Alright guys, I need your help.  This blog has been stealing my photographs and my content twice now. They most recently stole my last post about getting a tree, which you can see here. Could you please leave a comment asking them to take the post down? I have repeatedly told them to stop stealing my content which includes anything on the blog, photos and non-photos, but they continue to do so. But of course they leave no email that I can email them at.

Best of Philadelphia - Please stop visiting my blog and stop stealing my content

  1. I just want to ask because I'm new to blogging, but does it still count as stealing if they say where the original source is? I can understand if they're taking your posts and passing it off as their own but if they say where they got it from, surely that's not stealing and is more like a reblog like on tumblr (sorry, that's the site I use so I don't know if Blogger has something similar). Isn't that how everyone gets their stuff spread around the interwebs to get more followers?

Just wanted to know because I know on tumblr, I reblog a lot of random people that I find and always say where the original is so other people can go there. I'd never steal anyone's and pass it off as mine but I thought it was fine to just say "Oh I like this, here it is and this is where it's from so you can go look"

    Sorry that was so long!

  2. All this content is originally mine. I took the photographs, I wrote the words, and they have no permission to use it. That is called stealing in my book.

  3. So their whole blog is your stuff or just some of it? Imo, if they've put that it's yours then that's not stealing because it's like a reblog on tumblr. But that's just my opinion. But if you've notified them that you're not happy with them using it then that's definitely out of line and they should take it down.

  4. Basically I just really don't like how they've taken my stuff and put it on their blog without asking my permission. I still think that's wrong.

THeir blog is made up of other bloggers stuff.

  5. I have contacted them in the past about previous posts and I said they are never allowed to use any of my content.

  6. Oh ok, that's a little weird if their whole blog is just other people's stuff. Since you've contacted them, then they should definitely take it down.

Imo, if you make something public on the internet like on a blog then that gives other people the right to share it without your permission as a means of saying "Oh, this is good, my followers should have a read of this", as long as they state the original source and don't make it out to be their own work. Like an article on a news website or something, it's public content as soon as it's posted so other people are entitled to share it and direct people to the original source based on that post, but again that's just my view on it and I completely understand where you're coming from.

  7. I understand that, but I say specifically on my blog NOT to do that. I have the right to say that about my content and people should respect that. I understand I put it out there, but I do not agree with other people taking it without permission. I guess it's an ethical issue to me.

  8. Oh yes, definitely, I didn't see you had it written down here! *is blind* In that case, definitely they are in the wrong since you specifically say not to.

  9. I think your blog is lovely. I'm so sorry you're having problems with these guys!

You may want to check out this webpage: http://rising.blackstar.com/how-to-send-a-dmca-takedown-notice.html

It's the webpage of an attorney specializing in issues faced by photographers, and she's got a useful post about preparing and sending a takedown notice -- which is a specific type of letter under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act used to get an internet service provider to remove infringing material from a webpage.

    good luck!!!

  10. Gasp! Ummm yeah that's weird, who doesn't ask permission or at least respect your wishes to not have it reposted??

  12. It's silly because it would have been flattering for them to feature your posts, had they asked your permission. It is definitely stealing for them to take an entire post without prior consent.
Very strange...most people know basic blogging etiquette?

  15. I looked at this blog, and it's just such a weird setup. They feature blogs centering around Philadelphia, but they don't ask for permission or make some of their purpose very clear. They mention your blog at the bottom, but it's still unclear (to me at least) whether or not it's your blog. Either way, it's pretty crappy and unprofessional if you're looking to seriously establish yourself in the blogging community.

  16. Wow that is pretty much stealing in my book. I just commented on their post:

"This is a cute post, but was written by Chaucee so maybe ya’ll should ask her first before posting it and taking her content and photos. You can have a free ride on other people’s talent."

It says it's awaiting moderation though, I'm doubting they will let it through. Good luck, sorry this is happening!
