Honey can be used to treat burns and dry skin, can enhance memory and the immune system, soothe a sore throat, and it acts as a natural energy booster. Below are three of my favorite honey infusions to make and have on hand in the kitchen.
Lemon + Honey + Cinnamon Cough Syrup
Cinnamon is a spice that's been used for thousands of years in the art of healing. It has plenty of antioxidants, helps to lower blood pressure, can aid in weight loss, and boosts memory. Combine that with fresh lemons which flush toxins and increase energy levels, and that makes this homemade cough syrup one serious remedy! It's also quite delicious.
1 cup honey
Juice of one lemon
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
4 cinnamon sticks
Directions: Heat ingredients over low heat for 10 minutes, stirring so it doesn't burn. Burn honey looses it's health benefits and quality flavor. The really low heat is just to help thoroughly combine the ingredients. After 10 minutes, remove from heat and transfer to a sealable glass jar. Let sit for at least two hours, and up to two weeks. The longer it infuses the more flavorful it will become. Strain before use.
How to use: Place a heaping spoonful of the honey syrup into the bottom of a mug. Add hot water and a tea bag.
This ginger honey infusions is a great remedy for stomach issues and helps with flushing toxins from your body.
1 cup honey
A few strips of raw ginger
A pinch of ground ginger
Directions: Same as above.
Mint leaf can help with digestion, nausea and headaches, helps relieves congestion, and stimulates weight loss.
1 cup raw honey
1 cup fresh mint leaves
Directions: Combine mint and honey into a sealable jar and let sit for 2 weeks. Strain before use.
How To Use
Add a tablespoon of the infusion to a cup of hot water and enjoy! I like to drizzle it on top of my greek yogurt and berries in the morning. It not only sweetens it up but adds another layer of flavor! So delish.
